A nossa terra foi mais uma vez vítima dum ataque terrorista abominável. Desde as Astúrias até Ferrol, Ourense, Vigo e Aveiro, costa e interior, ardeu a Callaecia toda.
Segundo dados oficiais, na Galiza 35.500 hectares foram calcinados no fim de semana, mais uns 12.600 nos dias anteriores, é dizer, um total de 48.100 (uma superfície superior ao tamanho dum país como Andorra). Em todo o território de Portugal foram mais de 200.000 só nas primeiras duas semanas de Outubro (o tamanho dum país como o Luxemburgo).
Com mais de 30 pessoas mortas a norte e sul do Minho, o velho mas conhecido padrão repete-se: quando as condições são favoráveis o lume aparece, sempre, aparentemente planificado em linhas de centos de quilómetros. Quem comete o crime fisicamente conta com toda a informação e toda a infra-estrutura necessária, mas além disso conta com saber-se impune, amparado por uns poderes beneficiários a meio e longo prazo do ecocídio.
Na verdade, existem factores complexos, acidentes genuínos e até imitadores. Contudo, a escala e simultaneidade não podem ser explicadas por simples tolos pirómanos isolados como as autoridades querem-nos fazer crer. De facto, não é só que as leis, acções e respostas oficiais sejam insuficientes ou mal planificadas, mas que historicamente favoreceram essas situações.
Agora, à destruição da Natureza, à morte directa de vida vegetal e animal, vai suceder uma degradação do chão e dos ciclos da terra, com consequências gravíssimas para o modo de vida de inúmeras famílias que, também, podem ter perdido as suas casas, as suas aldeias, a paisagem, refúgio e acougo da sua vida.
Aí nascerão eucaliptos, espécie pirófita daninha para o nosso ambiente que prospera nessas áreas queimadas, espécie que medrou como nunca ajudada por esses incêndios e incentivos económicos desde a implantação das indústrias pasteiras em Ponte Vedra e Aveiro. A relação não é casual.
Arderam jóias do nosso património natural a mantenta, que também é o nosso património cultural, pois a Callaecia não se entende sem a sua Natureza, nem física nem humanamente. Os milhares que ontem saímos às ruas em protesto bem entendemos isso.
Os responsáveis de isto tudo são, então, inimigos da Callaecia, e portanto assim serão tratados.
Para mais insulto, lembramos que hoje dia 17 foi aprovada uma nova lei na Galiza que facilitará a instalação de grandes operações industriais, incluídas de minaria, mesmo em espaços protegidos. Mais que nunca, a manifestação nacional agendada para o domingo 22 toma ainda mais relevância e encorajamos a todos e todas a assistirdes maciçamente.
Pode que os inimigos continuem influindo os centros de poder e decisão, mas vão ter sempre a resposta digna e orgulhosa do Povo consciente e soberano. E abofé, os tempos serão chegados quando o pacto entre as Deidades, Terra e Ser Humano será renovado. Trabalharemos também para isso.
PD. A IDG tem entre os seus objectivos estatutários a defesa íntegra da Natureza e da Galiza/Callaecia, assim como o princípio de Responsabilidade é um dos eixos fundamentais da ética céltica. Se o líder de turno, o responsável do cuidado da terra, é passivo nas suas funções ou mesmo activamente nocivo com as suas acções, esse responsável não pode ser válido e deve ser combatido e substituído.
Lembramos aliás que a Druidaria não é um algo abstracto. Não é uma religião passiva ou contemplativa, nunca o foi, ao estar sempre vencelhada a uma comunidade, a um Povo, aos seus interesses e dignidade. Valorizamos a atitude de “mãos à obra” na melhora do nosso mundo, não a mera teoria ou debates sem mais transcendência.

Attack on Callaecia
Our land has been once again the victim of an abominable terrorist attack. From Asturias to Ferrol, Ourense, Vigo and Aveiro, seaside and inland, the whole Callaecia burned.
According to official figures, 35,500 hectares were calcined during the weekend, plus some 12,600 in previous days. That is to say, a total of 48,100 (an area larger than a country like Andorra). In the entire territory of Portugal they were 200,000 in the first two weeks of October alone (the size of a country like Luxembourg).
With more than 30 dead to the north and south of river Minho, the old but well-known pattern repeats itself: when the conditions are favorable wildfires appear, always, planned in lines of hundreds of kilometers. Those who physically commit this crime apparently have all the information and all the necessary infrastructure. But they also feel untouchable, backed by the medium and long-term beneficiaries of the ecocide.
Indeed, there are complex factors, genuine accidents and even copycats. However, the sheer scale and simultaneity in the origin of the wildfires cannot be explained solely by isolated pyromaniac fools, as the authorities want us to believe. In fact, it is not simply that their official laws, actions and responses are insufficient or poorly planned, but rather they have favoured such situations historically.
Now, to the destruction of Nature, to the direct death of plants and animal life, degradation of the soil and cycles of the land with follow, with grave consequences for the way of life of countless families which may also have lost their homes, villages, the landscape, the refuge and beauty of their lives.
Eucalyptus trees will thrive in these burned areas. This is a pyrophyte species, pernicious for our environment, that has expanded like never before since the apparition of paper-mills in Ponte Vedra and Aveiro and their associated economic incentives. The connection is not accidental.
True jewels of our natural heritage have been destroyed, and that also implies a loss for our cultural heritage, because Callaecia cannot be understood without Her Nature, neither physically nor humanly. The thousands of people who took to the streets yesterday in protest understand this well.
Those responsible for this situation are, then, enemies of Callaecia, and they shall be treated as such.
To add insult to injury, a new law has been passed in Galicia today. This new law will facilitate the installation of large industrial operations, including mining, even in protected areas. More than ever, the national demonstration scheduled for Sunday 22nd becomes even more relevant and we encourage everyone who can to attend.
The enemies may have influence over the centres of power and decision, but they will always be faced with the proud and noble response of the sovereign and conscious People. And surely, they day will come when the covenant between Deities, Land and Human Being will be renewed. We will also work for this.
PS. The IDG lists the integral defense of Nature and Galicia/Callaecia among its statutory objectives. Likewise, the principle of Responsibility is one of the fundamental foundations of Celtic ethics. If the current leaders, the official ‘protectors of the land’, are passive in their duties or even actively harmful with their actions, those leaders cannot be considered valid and must be fought and replaced.
Lest we forget that Druidry is not an abstract issue. It is not a passive or contemplative religion, it never has been, as it is intrinsically linked to a community, to a People, to its interests and dignity. We value a “hands on” attitude in the improvement of our world, not just mere theory or debates without further transcendence.
